A friend of my Sister has just been told she has cervical cancer…
She is 35, and in order to remove the cancer, they will have to take away part of her uterus and her fallopian tubes, which means she will never be able to have kids.

She has worked her entire life, has got a mortgage, and a loving husband. She has always wanted to have children, but wanted to make sure she could support them properly and give them a great start in life first. - Now that has been taken away from her altogether.
I don’t know why this affected me so much…. I suppose with Mother’s day, and the amount of undeserving parents I’ve seen (ESPECIALLY lately!), it really angers me that this has happened to her… I know that, at 35, she was leaving it quite late, but wanting to make sure you can support your own family without relying on the tax-payers isn’t an unreasonable thing to want…
I look around me now, and it seems that everybody is either pregnant or has just given birth, most of them don’t work, and an appalling amount of them don’t seem to have any common sense or the first clue when it comes to raising children… - But the truth is, I’m not bashing them, I’m JEALOUS!

I have always had the same opinion. - I am not having kids until I have a stable job, and my own house. But at 22, I have had to go back to square one, as it just hasn’t worked out that way…
I haven’t given up hope, but I can’t help but wonder how long it will actually be until I can provide for a family… I know couples who are well into their 30’s, who both work and STILL can’t afford to have a child. It just seems that you’re never in a comfortable financial position, and that scares and angers me. - You have some young Mums out there who have never worked for anything in their lives… They willingly get pregnant and pop one child out after the other. - THEY get to experience the joys of motherhood and get everything handed to them on a plate. - It just doesn’t seem right. :/
I know it’s stupid, I guess my sister’s friend’s situation has really got to me. You often wonder if it’s worth working for anything these days…
I have been mentally and emotionally ready to have a baby for ages now. I couldn’t want anything more! But does that mean it’s right for me to knowingly get pregnant and put my name down for benefits and a council house, just because I want to be a mother NOW? Everyone else does it, so why shouldn’t I, right? - No, it’s not right, and I wouldn’t do that.
- Unfortunately, my pride prevents me. so God only knows when I’ll finally be able to have kids. - I just hope I don’t live to regret waiting!
Summary: It just depresses me that finances have so much impact on starting a family these days.

Cerebral Palsy sufferer, Tom Sargent (9) is fundraising to pay for his own operation.

I read this the other day in BEST magazine about 9 year old Tom Sargent who has cerebral palsy…
Tom’s bid for NHS surgery to help him walk was turned down, so him and his little sister, Lilee, decided to open up a bric-a-brac stall in an attempt to raise money so that he could have the life-changing surgery in America. - Ideally, he needs to have the operation before he’s 10. :/

As heart-warming as it is that people have donated items for him to sell, I can’t help but wonder what sort of country we live in, where the NHS will pay for insecure women to have breast implants, morbidly obese people to have gastric surgery, and alcoholics and smokers to get all the help they need, yet will deny surgery that will help a 9 year old boy (who has done nothing wrong!) lead a happier and more fulfilling life…
We also provide free medical care to every Tom, Dick, and Harry who steps foot into the country without asking for so much as a passport…
- Now, I’m not saying that some people are more deserving than others, but for God’s sake, we as a country REALLY need to sort our priorities out!

It’s times like this I really wish I could win the lottery. - I would give that child the money in a heart-beat, but the fact is that they shouldn’t have to go to America. - He is a UK citizen, and his parents and family pay taxes. Why can’t he have the surgery here?
